On Saturday evening, members of the All Saints ANew church and our friends had a marvellous opportunity to display their intelligence (and their ignorance) as part of a fun trivia night to support the building fund for our church’s recent renovation.
There were questions covering virtually every sphere of human knowledge including sport, geography, sport, local Newcastle trivia, sport, history and sport. (Actually there weren’t really many questions about sport…thankfully for me!) Here are some examples of the brain twisters we were examined on…
What Australian city is this famous “big” object located in?
What does the acronym QANTAS stand for?
Provide a Fourier analysis of the waveform generated by the circuit in the following diagram.
….Actually that last one didn’t make it into the final list of questions.
Notably, there was an observation round where we were played a video and then asked questions about what we saw. We were told to take notes as the video played. I wish I had because when the first question about the “Firemen” in the video was asked I was surprised because I thought all the people in video were policemen!
After all the effort and talent on the display, the team with the least creative name, “Table 3”, ended up winning with 81 points.
There was not only fun on the evening, there was juicy controversy! One team was accused of cheating! Fortunately, we were all in the company of people who want to be “forgiven as we forgive those who trespass against us” so we all had a good laugh. (It all turned out to be a misunderstanding anyway!)
It was an excellent evening and we are very grateful to everyone who contributed and organised the event.
By the way, the country who’s flag does NOT contain the colours red, white or blue is, of course, Jamaica!
