Normally the only service that is lucky enough to get a Kid’s Talk at our church is the 10am service. But today everyone was treated to a visit from a very special Kid’s presenter. None other than our friend Michael Pickering, from Quiz Worx.
At 10am, Michael told us a story based on James chapter 2 where we learn that God doesn’t want us to show favouritism.
We saw a funny and entertaining performance (from some smaller versions of Michael) showing us that we shouldn’t just be friends with people who are cool or people who look and sound like us. Instead, we need to try to be friends with everyone. Why? Because Jesus is friends with everyone! He loves us all!
The 5pm service had a really special treat. The congregation were expecting an interview with Michael, but he was missing! Instead we enjoyed the company of a charming purple fellow called Percival!
Percival explained that Quiz Worx was about “Sharing Jesus with kids everywhere”. Percival particularly loved visiting state schools in partnership with local SRE/Scripture teachers and coordinators.
He went on to tell us that leading up to Christmas, Quiz Worx has a goal of hosting 500 events to spread the message about Jesus to children. For this reason Quiz Worx is looking for volunteers and interns who would like to join the team and help.
When Percival was asked about how he and Michael were funded he told us about the money tree he has in his back yard……but after letting us know that this was a little joke, he told us that he was actually funded through the support of people like us.
Percival had to say goodbye but by an amazing coincidence as soon as Percival left, Michael arrived!
Michael picked up from where Percival left off and let us know that a large part of the work that Quiz Worx does is training people how to minister to kids. Michael has travelled far and wide to deliver training and will be attending the upcoming WinterCon event for Newcastle Christian Students to deliver even more training.
