We live in interesting times.
Drought, bushfire, virus, economic uncertainty… 2020 has been a year to remember. And understandably, many of us are searching for something we can count on, to bring security and peace to our lives, and ensure the wellbeing of our families.
At times like this, Jesus claims to make a big difference.
He offers peace and rest, and even life in the face of death.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Book of Matthew, chapter 11, verse 28
“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
Book of John, chapter 6, verse 35
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”
Book of John, chapter 11, verse 25
“I give [my people] eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
Book of John, chapter 10, verse 28
No doubt these claims are huge. If these are true, they are well worth thinking about, discussing, and evaluating. What is it about Jesus that gives him the right to say such things? What did he actually mean by them? And how does it offer security, in uncertain times? For many, investigating Jesus’ words has been the beginning of a journey, to a life more resilient, confident, and free than they’d thought they could be.
“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practise is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Book of Matthew, chapter 7, verses 24-25
Would you like to consider Jesus further? KNOWING JESUS is a course we run for people interested in the difference Jesus could makes to their lives. The vibe is relaxed, you’re more than welcome to come with a friend or on your own, and no questions are off limits. There are 5 sessions each taking about an hour, spread over 5 weeks. And the first session is online, using a program called Zoom.
The course runs for 5 sessions, and each one covers a different aspect of knowing Jesus.
1. What does Jesus have to offer? (on Zoom)
2. Seeing ourselves clearly
3. Love and Jesus’ sacrifice
4. The imperishable life
5. Living with Jesus
Each session runs for about an hour, and will typically look like this:
Welcome (5 mins)
Intro Question (5 mins) something general to stir our thoughts about the topic of the night.
Short talk (15 mins) everyone together
Discussion (20 mins) in small groups, facilitated by one of our friendly group leaders.
Q & A (10 mins) a chance to ask absolutely anything about Jesus, perhaps a question that arose during the session, or something else entirely.
If you’d like to come along, please register your interest using the button below. We’ll send you details to log in. You’re more than welcome to just try the first session and see what it’s like. Or if you have any questions, send them through and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
