VISION AND MISSION
TO SEE MORE PEOPLE TRANSFORMED BY JESUS
This is what we as a church would love to see, and it comes from God’s vision for the world. God’s great plan is to unite all things under Christ’s Lordship (Ephesians 1:9-10), such that every knee will bow before Jesus to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11). To bring this about, Jesus became a man and died on the cross for our sins to reconcile us to God (Colossians 1:19-22). Following His death and resurrection, Jesus ascended into heaven, and sent His Spirit to remind us of all He said and did (John 14:26), uniting us to Himself, and transforming us to live the new life we’ve been given.
Jesus has been transforming people ever since: bringing peace with God, certain hope of eternal life, love between enemies, joy amidst the worst suffering. And we love to see Him do it! So we’re praying that He would transform other people’s lives, and we’re praying He’d continue transforming us, so everyone can reach full maturity in Him (Colossians 1:28), and be found holy and blameless when He returns to bring judgment and salvation (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
BUT HOW ARE WE PRAYING TO SEE THIS HAPPEN?
There are many ways Jesus can and does transform people. But given our time in history and place in the world, we’re praying specifically that more people would be transformed by Jesus…
AS BY THE SPIRIT WE ESTABLISH A NETWORK OF THRIVING CONGREGATIONS IN FIVE LOCATIONS, PASTORED LOCALLY AND SUPPORTED BY A HUB IN NEW LAMBTON
That’s a mouthful! So let’s break it down into bite-size pieces.
BY THE SPIRIT
Although God is in control of all things, He has decided to work through our efforts by the power of the Holy Spirit. We plant and water, but He gives the growth (1 Corinthians 3).
In our context, we believe a thriving congregation will see 100 people on Sunday, new people coming to faith, and everyone using their gifts to serve God and love people.
IN FIVE LOCATIONS
Presently we have congregations in New Lambton and Fletcher. But there are so many people we can’t meet if we stay here, so we want to spread out and reach more of Newcastle.
Each congregation will be overseen by a specific pastor, to ensure the ministry is done in a way sensitive to the local context. Congregations in different locations will look different, and that’s a good thing if we’re hoping to see more people transformed by Jesus!
SUPPORTED BY A HUB IN NEW LAMBTON
To support the network, a ministry centre will be established in New Lambton. It will provide training, ministry resources, administration, and even some centralised ministries (such as one youth group for the network of five churches).
WOULD YOU JOIN US?
If you’re a Christian who’s looking for a church, would you partner with us in sharing the gospel in Newcastle? Would you commit to praying that Jesus would bear much gospel fruit, so many more people would be saved and transformed, and the Father praised for his mercy and grace. If you would like to join us, please come along on Sunday, or send us a message to say hi.
